Who said Easter egg hunts are just for kids? Treasurer Roby Smith is encouraging Iowans to search GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov ahead of the Easter holiday weekend to see if they have “Easter eggs” to be found.
“Spring is in the air, and Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is inviting all Iowans to embark on a thrilling digital adventure to find their lost or forgotten assets,” said Treasurer Smith. “Whether you’re a seasoned treasure hunter or a first-timer, our website is easy to navigate. Search your name, the names of friends, family members and even your favorite businesses.”
Although not everyone has an “Easter egg” in Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, it’s estimated that one in seven Iowans has forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, safe deposit items and more. Currently, more than half a billion dollars remains unclaimed.
Since its inception, Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned millions of dollars to rightful owners. Each successful claim tells a unique story—whether it’s reconnecting someone with a family heirloom, helping a small business recover a missing check, or surprising a college student with forgotten utility deposits.
As Iowa’s only legitimate source of unclaimed property, Treasurer Smith encourages past and present Iowans to search for their unclaimed property by visiting GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov.
