The Treasurer's Office

Hi – I’m Roby Smith, Iowa’s State Treasurer. I’d like to welcome you to learn more about Iowa’s Treasury Office and everything we do to keep the money safe in a responsible and transparent manner.

As State Treasurer, I serve as the State’s Banker and Chief Financial Officer, overseeing Iowa’s investment portfolios and various programs that help our state thrive. Each day, my office deposits and invests state monies ensuring Iowa is set up for success today, while also thinking to the future.

From programs that help save for future expenses like ISave 529 or Iowa's Achieving a Better Life Experience (IAble) plan, to returning money through Great Iowa Treasure Hunt and more - there's something here for every Iowan.

Citizens

Treasurer Smith is dedicated to serving Iowa citizens by offering a range of programs and resources, including IAble savings accounts for people with disabilities, ISave 529 education savings plans, financial education tools and returning unclaimed money to individuals and businesses through Great Iowa Treasure Hunt.

The State Treasurer also supports small businesses through the Linked Investments for Tomorrow (LIFT) program, manages pension investments for state employees and oversees state funds with a focus on safety and growth.

Businesses

The Iowa Treasurer’s Office offers a variety of programs and services to support businesses in Iowa. These resources help businesses stay compliant, manage financial assets and access valuable funding opportunities.

Key services include unclaimed property compliance, which requires businesses to report unclaimed financial assets; administering pledging for public fund deposits; and determining minimum interest rates that shall be paid on public funds deposited in approved financial institutions. Other services include Invest in Iowa and Linked Investments for Tomorrow (LIFT).

Governments

Treasurer Smith provides valuable resources and services to government entities across Iowa. This includes distributing funds from the State’s Road Use Tax Fund to counties and cities, ensuring communities receive essential infrastructure funding to repair or replace roads and bridges throughout the great state of Iowa.

Additional services include managing the Protection of Public Deposits program, offering Public Fund Rates for time deposits and maintaining an interactive Outstanding Obligations Report, which tracks annual debt reporting from political entities statewide.
