ISave 529

ISave 529 lets parents, grandparents, friends and relatives invest for education expenses on behalf of a future scholar. With funds and earnings from an ISave 529 account, families can pay for qualified expenses like tuition, room, board, books, supplies and more at any eligible education institution around the country. This includes colleges, universities, community colleges, trade schools, apprenticeship programs and more. Additionally, up to $10,000 per year per student can be used for K-12 expenses, and up to $10,000 can be used for repayment on any qualified education loan of the beneficiary or a sibling of the beneficiary.

For 2025, if an Iowa taxpayer is an ISave 529 account owner, they can deduct the first $5,800 they contribute per beneficiary account from their state taxable income. For example, married account owners who contribute to separate accounts on behalf of their two children can deduct up to $23,300 (4 x $5,800) on their 2025 Iowa taxes. The deductible amount is adjusted annually for inflation.

Visit the plan's website for more information and to open an account. Read the Program Description (PDF) for additional details about the plan.
