Treasurer Smith Returns Unclaimed Money to YMCA of Greater Des Moines
State Treasurer Roby Smith presented a check from Great Iowa Treasure Hunt to the YMCA of Greater Des Moines for $5,112.08 in unclaimed funds owed to them.
“It’s my pleasure to present this check to the YMCA of Greater Des Moines on behalf of Great Iowa Treasure Hunt,” said Treasurer Smith. “Whether you’re an individual, a business or simply curious, this is a great reminder to visit GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov and search your name to see if you have treasure too.”
Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is the State’s only legitimate program for reuniting lost funds with individuals and businesses in Iowa. Each year, money and other assets are turned over to the State Treasurer’s Office after they have been deemed unclaimed after a specific amount of time. The office then holds the funds indefinitely until the rightful owner or heir comes forward.
“We appreciate the efforts of the State of Iowa to help get unclaimed funds to their rightful owners,” said Cameron Nicholson, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. “For a nonprofit organization like the Y, these funds mean we can serve more children, adults and families with programs that enhance the quality of life in our community.”
To date, Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned more than $393 million, with over $587 million still waiting to be claimed.
