State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald’s Great Iowa Treasure Hunt website recently received a makeover. The new website changes will not only allow users to search for their lost treasure, but they can now submit their claim online. Once a treasure hunter completes the form online, they receive an email with their claim form. They can then upload their completed claim form and documentation right on the site and save their stamps! The website will also allow users to track the status of the claim. “We hope this service will make it easier for Iowans to claim their money,” Fitzgerald said. “We are excited to enhance our website in order to better serve you.”
Great Iowa Treasure Hunt Launches New Website
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program has returned over $218,958,308 million in unclaimed property since Fitzgerald created it in 1983. Corporations, business associations, financial institutions and companies across the nation report millions of dollars in unclaimed property to the state treasurer each year. Common examples of unclaimed property include money in forgotten savings and checking accounts, uncashed insurance benefit and payroll checks, lost stock and dividends, abandoned safe deposit box contents, utility refunds or deposits.
