State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald has wrapped up 2014 as another successful year for the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. Over 16,000 claims were paid to treasure hunters, totaling more than $15 million. “The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has become a very successful program,” Fitzgerald said. “Each year, we return millions of dollars in unclaimed property to the rightful owners. The largest treasure returned this year was $875,354.77.” Currently, the treasurer’s office has more than $289 million in unclaimed property for more than 1.7 million accounts.
The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program has returned over $188 million in unclaimed property to more than 452,000 people since Fitzgerald created it in 1983. “We are dedicated to helping Iowans reunite with their missing money and property,” stated Fitzgerald. “Visit GreatIowaTreasureHunt.com to see if you have money waiting for you.” Be sure to like the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt on Facebook and follow the program on Twitter @GreatIATreasure.
