Treasurer Fitzgerald Announces Success at 2011 Iowa Women and Money Conference
October 18, 2011
DES MOINES, Iowa – Women of all ages gathered at the Polk County Convention Complex on October 8 to attend Iowa’s 5th Annual Women and Money Conference, a free event hosted by State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald in coordination with the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women. “Our goal with this event was to help women achieve financial success and security,” Fitzgerald stated. “While solid financial planning is key for men and women alike, women face many unique challenges that influence their financial well being. My office’s mission is to provide financial leadership to Iowans, and these conferences are a big step towards reaching that goal.”
The day began at 9:00 AM with opening remarks by Treasurer Fitzgerald. He introduced this year’s keynote speaker, Certified Financial Planner and financial educator Dee Lee. An impressive lineup of financial experts presented in three breakout sessions. The speakers focused on many topics relevant to women today, including identity theft, money basics, family finances and retirement. The conference was made possible through the generous donations of sponsors including Wells Fargo, Vanguard and Upromise Investments.
The conference received an overwhelming positive response. Attendees were asked to complete a survey at the conclusion of the conference. Some of the comments provided by women who attended were:
“Great conference – my first time, but I will be sure to return!”
“Please hold this conference again next year!”
“Fantastic conference! Next year I plan to bring friends!”
“Thanks for a great, free seminar.”
