Treasurer Fitzgerald Advocates Money Smart Week in Iowa
March 27, 2019
DES MOINES, Iowa – State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald’s office is joining financial institutions across the state and nation in celebrating Money Smart Week. This year, Money Smart Week is Saturday, March 30 – Saturday, April 6 and is designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances and public awareness.
“Banks, libraries, not-for-profits and public organizations across the country have joined together to promote healthy financial habits during the month of April,” Fitzgerald said. “These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week.”
Events include bike rides to piggy bank and kite decorating contests across the state and various shred events at locations. For a list of complete events near you, visit MoneySmartWeek.org, select “Event” and enter your zip code.
The treasurer’s office is committed to providing all Iowans with unbiased financial information and education programs and is pleased to offer a list of resources – from simulation games to savings calculators – on the treasurer’s website. Visit IowaTreasurer.gov, click on the “For Citizens” tab and select “Financial Education and Empowerment.”
“I encourage all Iowans to participate in Money Smart Week by reading a financial article, opening a new savings account or reevaluating a budget,” stated Fitzgerald. “We can empower the next generation by encouraging smart financial habits at home.”
