Kids at the Iowa State Fair Get the Importance of Education

I love the Iowa State Fair, and getting to talk with kids, parents and grandparents in person is truly rewarding. It gives the College Savings Iowa team the opportunity to speak face-to-face with our account owners and help families plan for the future.

Every year, we ask kids who visit our booth to take our survey about what they want to be when they grow up. The career of choice by the kids at this year’s Fair? Veterinarian, with professional athlete and teacher coming in second and third.

Approximately 89% of the 1,250 children who took the survey felt that they’ll need a college education to reach their career dreams. When asked how much money they thought it would cost, more than 55% guessed $100,000. 15% thought $1 million, and 13% said $1,000.

It’s clear that most children see a college degree in their future, and they’re aware of how much it could cost. Like the kids showed us at the Fair, it’s never too early to start dreaming about the future, and it’s never too early for parents and grandparents to start saving for that future. The gift of education is one your children will never forget.
